Unique collaboration creates national course platform for professionals

Many of Sweden's higher education institutions offer courses specially adapted for professionals, but information about these has never been gathered in one place. Through a unique collaboration between four higher education institutions (University West, Linnaeus University, Mälardalen University and Örebro University), Swedsoft and Teknikföretagen, a joint platform has now been launched for course information for professionals.

At learning4professionals.se, information is gathered about courses specially adapted for professionals.

– Our new platform makes it easier for professionals to choose a course that suits their needs for both content and study pace, says Stefan Eck, project manager for the course platform at Mälardalen University. Swedsoft has contributed with important information about the software industry’s need for competence development during our development of the course platform, Stefan continues.

New paths to skills development

On the platform, there is information about, for example, course content and course start as well as links to each university. It is also possible to search for courses in specific subject areas and to subscribe to information about new courses. Many Swedish higher education institutions offer courses aimed at professionals, but information about these courses has never before been gathered on a common platform. The new website will make it much easier for professionals and their employers to find new paths to skills development.

One of Swedsoft’s most important issues are education and skills supply and lifelong learning is important for our members. Therefore we did not hesitate for a second when we had the opportunity to contribute to the platform, says Gabriel Modéus, Secretary General of Swedsoft.

The course platform is a result of the collaborative project KIT (Competence needs and courses for professionals in IT and competitive production). The purpose of the project is to contribute to the continued development of the industry’s competence development through needs-adapted university courses at the advanced level, which are aimed specifically at professionals in the industry. The project works to increase the impact of the separate initiatives by strengthening the cooperation between the higher education institutions  to reach a larger target group. The goal is that the higher education institutions together will be able to offer cutting-edge courses that contribute to the development of the industry’s digitalisation.

The project runs 2018-2020 and is funded by Vinnova. It includes four universities: University West, Linnaeus University, Mälardalen University and Örebro University. In addition, Swedsoft, Teknikföretagen and Blekinge Tekniska Högskola are also participating in the project.
